Sleeping Diana

Available as a print.

I illustrated Diana in this project, ancient goddess of the hunt and the moon, being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals.

Diana, a young woman, falls asleep after the hunt with a bow and a quiver behind her back. She takes a rest surrounded with a rainforest and devoted greyhounds. One of the dogs has a deer reflection in the eye. A deer was also widely used in Diana’s depictions.
The crescent moon adorns her forehead; a golden oak diadem, which underlines Diana’s status as lady of the forest, holds her unruly hair. Freсkles on her face make a Virgo constellation that echoes the youth and virginity.

You can also discover a subproject which depicts Diana’s journey arount the Europe.
